THE JOURNEY!

With all the wonderful things this class has accomplished together there has to be so many things each student could write about. Since everyone has there own special accomplishments in this class it will all be different. I have a few things that I would say are my favorite parts about this class. One of the few would be my wiki, I was the very first WIKI MASTER in this class. http://www.myglife.org/usa/wv/rhswiki/index.php/User:Cwfridley10. That was a great accomplishment, because everyone was racing to get it and it was me who achieved it first.
Another great moment for me would have to be being apart of the "Stop the Hate Rally" in Charleston. This was a inspiration, and I was very happy to be the one to write a blog post on my experiences with that. The way our state could come together and work through tough times. http://cwfridley10.blogspot.com/2010/04/stop-hate-rally.html. <-Check it out!
My number one total greatest accomplishment would have to be the final product. I'm sure this would have to be on just about every single persons' post. It was such a relief to say I am finished, and an even greater joy to say that my partner and I have created a game. So this for sure made us more confident in ourselves, and for me at least made me excited to present in front of all the Gobalorian's of the world. I would definitely say my partner and I did excellent on our project, and in the class in general. I won't be able to ever forget this experience with Globaloria, and the people that made better than it could ever be. (My partner Ashley, Chez, and everyone with Globaloria) I hate to say it but this will probably be my last post.
Good-Bye Globaloria! :]
Final Product: ^^^^

Reviewing Team Pages

The first team that I viewed were the team of "Pinky & The Brain," which is Amy and Katie. http://www.myglife.org/usa/wv/rhswiki/index.php/Team:Pinky_%26_the_Brain For one I thought the name of their team was great and funny, and I got a laugh out of it. Even though their name was good this blog is about the games the teams have came up with. There game wasn't fully completed or they just didn't complete the uploading process. The parts that they had uploaded were quite amazing. Actually amazing is and understatement. I could tell there was a ton of time put into this. Everything was bright and neat, and it all made sense. I cant wait to see the final game once it is all uploaded. I know it will be great, no complaints. The second game I chose to review was the team of "JESSAMIAH" which are the people of Jessica and Jeremiah. http://www.myglife.org/usa/wv/rhswiki/index.php/Team:Team_JESSAMIAH!
They did actually have their whole game uploaded so I got to play the whole game. There game as a whole was kind of hard to be honest, but i had to play it again. Even though I did worse the second time I played I really liked it. Since I set right beside these two I knew for a fact there was a ton of time put into this. One thing i would say to change would be to slow down the pieces a bit, or you could maybe make to where you eventually win. Overall I was very impressed.

Group Chat!

My partners in the group chat were Katie, Destyne, and Tiffany. I was the one to set up the group chat to get everyone talking to each other on one thing. The first thing that we decided upon was what part each person was going to. It was decided that Tiffany would do poem one, Katie would do poem two, I would do poem three, and Destyne would be the one to always ask questions. In each of our summaries we made it at least one paragraph, and were on point with each other. This activity was so fun, and none of us even realized that the time flew by. Also no one even knew that you could do group chats, which was a fun new thing to try. The fonts on the chats even had smiley faces and hearts that would turn into a cartoon. This was a good group activity and I wouldn't mind doing something like this again.

Stop The Hate Rally

My experience within the "Stop The Hate Rally" was ultimately outstanding. To see all kinds of people come out to support just made it all the better. Just about every person that was there was basically jumping with joy. From seeing everyone dance to "Country Roads" to the hilarious signs that the supporters were holding made a smile come on my face. Also just about every vehicle that went by would honk their horns to show how they cared. Just seeing the smile's on every face made me realize why I like it here. This place is not just home to me, it's a comfort zone that will always be apart of me. West Virginia isn't a bad place to be, just like every state we have few problems but we have just shown that we can all come together in a time of crisis. Everyone has been concentrating on the hate they have for the protesters that came from Kansas, but i think we need to focus on not letting them get what they want out of us. If we wouldn't have shown that we give a hoot of what they think of us that would give them more of a reason to leave. Since they got a reaction out of us that convinces then to stay even longer than needed. All in all I am so proud of the people of West Virginia, because we are all family in heart and we will always be there for one another. We are all West Virginians and I am proud to be apart of the wild and wonderful.

West Virginia :]

There is many views of West Virginia that come from many different kinds of people. The views of outsiders are somewhat mostly negative, but that's from not coming into the state and having any experience in this beautiful area. I know not everyone would like it here, because people that live here now dislike it a lot. We aren't viewed very nicely by the other states. For one we are never our own state. It's always western Virginia. Also were know for having relations within our family, and/or being hillbilly's. My views of West Virginia are positive, because to me this is a comfort zone. For one it's beautiful, but it keeps us safe too. Sometimes the mountains are not a help, but a lot of the time they keep us safe. A very important resource comes from this state, which is coal. The people of West Virginia risk their lives for our coal, such as coal miners. Here recently there has been an accident within the coal mines. An explosion has occurred that has left several tragic deaths of close ones to people around me. I wasn't close with any of the miners that have passed but I still feel for their friends and families. This accident has brought great heart ache to those around me, and I pray for them all. For more information about this accident go to this website : http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/07/us/07westvirginia.html

PJ Post!

Basically I'm going to start out by saying that PJ is a whizz at this computer stuff. He could just write down the codes off the top of his head to put in Flash. PJ was great help, because he offered to go around to the different groups to help them individually. Which was great. If only he was in our actual class it would help a lot. So he could be there everyday when we needed help. Even though I still don't completely understand everything about Flash, he did help quite a bit. My partner, Ashley, gets it way more than I do. So I think that she will be the one working on the codes. The thing i got the most when PJ helped the class would be when he worked with us as a whole on changing the red box to a blue box. Thank you PJ for all your help. :]

My Button Blog

This button making activity was on Flash, which I must say that I made it more difficult than it should have been. Without fully listening, I tried to teach myself. Basically, I was winging it. Once my partner and I drew our pictures we started to my our "button" work. This process was complicated at first, but when I thought about it after I was done and realized I was stupid. Making the button work is actually the easiest process in all of Flash. All you have to do is use your clicker, and choose "modify" at the top, and convert to symbol. Once the box pops up you have to choose the bullet "button" and rename your object. After you are finished you have to upload them onto your team pages. And that's it! So easy a caveman could do it!

Paper Prototype

In this activity, called the "paper prototype" my partner Ashely and I, decided to create sketches on computer paper of our ideals for our game.
-First we had to come up with a game that we would want to do, and brainstorm the steps of the game to make the paper prototype. We came up with the name of our game as "Are you a Rotten Apple?"
-The second step would be jotting down drawing of the steps to get a general idea of what we would want it to look like.
-Step number three would be actually drawing out the paper prototype and getting in down exactly how we wanted it. In this step we started decorating it to make it have some pzazz.
-The fourth step is to record the video of your paper prototype.
-The last and fifth step is to upload it to your wiki page, which is not completed by us, because we are waiting to learn how to do it.
Just because you make your paper prototype doesn't mean that you can't ever make adjustment. You can always change something in your game to make it better. This is just getting everything started. I think this is probably the easiest part of making your game, because I know it's going to get harder.

Planning Our Game

Ashley and I decided not to give out any certain roles for our game, because we thought it would be better to put both of our ideas in everything we do. With both of our input in each aspect we do our game would be that much better. We just throw around ideas off the top of our heads, just to brainstorm. Both of us are open to any suggestions that the other has, so there is no headbutting between us. The most exciting thing im looking foward to in creating this game would have to be the part when were going to have to play it at the end. On the other hand I would say my least favorite part that I am not looking foward to would be putting every single code in, because I know it's going to take a lot of work. The inspiration to our game would have to be the importance of education, and how no one takes it serious anymore.

The Canterbury Tales

Through the many different characters of "The Canterbury Tales" all of them seem to have a different meaning in their life, or have a different way they live. The story as a whole has to do with the different lives of pilgrims and what they do to get to Canterbury, London. The stories starts off at Tabard Inn in Southwark, London, where a group of twenty-nine pilgrims plan to descend to Canterbury. Within the story it talks about the social ranking of each pilgrim on the journey.
The tales of the character's start out with the Knight, who is noble to his country. He is said to have an "outstanding reputation" in every country he has defended. The Knight is known as a worthy man, with high standards. His clothing consisted of a tunic with stained rust from his weapon. The Nobel Knight brought two other pilgrims along on the trip by his side. One of the characters that is talked about is the Squire, which is one of the other pilgrims the Knight brought along with him. He is known to be a bachelor, at the age of twenty. The squire was always singing and playing the flute. Another person the Knight brought along was The Yeoman. He is the man who carries all the weapons, such as arrows, sword, and dagger.
Now to talk about one of my favorite characters, the Nun. This Nun wasn't like any other Nun, because this Nun was a swearing one. Apparently her favorite saying was "By St. Loy." I think the Nun made this story all the better, because she gave a sense of humor to it. Another good character in the story was The Monk. He was a sported man who rode a horse, and is said to be "as swift as birds." The last pilgrim that I am going to talk about is the Lawyer. He is said to be wary and wise, with a noted excellence. He is the one who teaches, or the one someone goes to with a question. The Lawyers knows every judgment, case, and crime that's recorded. He is dressed in a coat and silk.
There was an importance in every character from the story. I believe that each one had someone to balance them out, or they all could balance each other out. The society in the story and the society in real life are basically the same. The people now seem to be the same, besides the pilgrams parts, and carrying weapons. Through the secioty parts it is the same. Meaning the world hasn't change much. For an example having a hypocritical Nun. Now for the last question, with in desiging our own game. For one i believe the game comes from our own character, and the way we make up the difrent players comes from how we act. So meaning characterization isnt only good from movies, or the gaming world. It's important in real life too. :]

Imagine Your Game

Today we started our first thing with our partners, which was very exciting! Ashley and I took about 5 to 10 minuets to choose our topic and choose what are game was going to be about. We chose Education, and our idea was the bomb dot com. Well to me anyways, and I hope it's the same with everyone else. To be short with it our game is about a student finding their way through a maze of the school by answering checkpoint question, and finally making it to the teacher with an apple. Weather its ripe or moldy is up to how well you do in answering the questions in the maze. The "Imagining Your Game" talked about fixing your text, using tools, and uploading Flash items onto my wiki. Basically everything we already knew about, so it was useless. Even though we already knew how to do this, I am super excited to start working on our game and get it going. This is what I have been waiting for since the beginning of class.

Ango-Saxons Blog

When looking back at the beliefs of epic hero's through time, I have found that the persona of a hero stayed the same. Although some things were different such as now we believe in our hero's were super fanisized and fictional, and in this story they came to believe that their super human hero's were real. One of the most biggest tribunes to being a past time hero would be to protect the king at all cost, and to be willing to die in honor of their towns. That is a way that the hero's are the same, because heros in presnt times have to be willing to protect the town when in need. Although many of the epic hero's were based on fictional characters they all represnt human life in some sort of way.
The hero's in this story were nonfictional to the people in this story. They believed in them 100 percent, and knew that their eppic hero Ango-Saxon would protect them as much as possible. This epic hero Gilgamesh was born into an arrogant kingship, and had got brought down off the thrown. The ex-king had to humble himself to a pilgram. He is one of the origional hero's of the past, because his common faith of man.
I think it depends on the super hero that your talking about to beable to compare and contrast the diffrences of past and presnt. In this case I will be talking about Ango-Saxons and Superman. Superman happens to be a fictional character. He has the abitily to fly, and has super strength. Which is exactly like I said before of how hero's of the presnt are fanasized. Ango-Saxons on the other hand was a hero because of the faith the town had in him, and because of his courage and regular human strength.

Choosing A Topic

The first thing we had to do on "choosing a topic" was choosing a social issue to focus on. My social issue that I chose was poverty. So basically all i talked about was people in America being homeless, jobless, and people filing for unemployment. Which makes our country look awfully bad, epically with people sleeping on the side of the roads. I think it all comes to our government, because what are they doing right now? Spending money over seas for our enemies. Which to be quite frank, is pointless. Our government should be worrying about our economy more than others. This is where they live so why not help. This makes all the congress, and everyone that is a head honcho look selfish. Just because they are on their high horse they don't care about anyone who is doing so poorly. I also wrote about positive outcomes if they did actually start to care. Some of them were making homeless shelters for more people off the streets, making more job opportunities for the unemployed so they could take care of their families. If any help would come to the people I am almost positive that thanks and appreciation would be in favor. Honestly if I was running for congress I would try to help, the more votes the merrier.

Mini Game Tutorial

"The bunny and the carrot," what a game. To be my first game on the wiki, it was quite challenging. Upon learning how to use flash at the same time was most frustrating. Flash's code's are a lot like other friend sites that I go to, but they are not as complicated at all. Many frustrating things somehow found their way to me. Like putting the wrong code it or my carrot not moving for anything that I would do to it. My favorite part of the whole game was my final product, epically when i got to the part of putting the number box in the corner of the game. Once I actually seen my final product of my game I was ecstatic. I was so proud of myself, because of all the hard work I put into it. Over all this game was fun and aggravating, but I am excited to make my own!

Beowulf Part 2

The ultimate purpose of an epic hero is to leave something of lasting value. Beowulf left something that is a lasting value, which was the courage. The courage to defeat any other enemies the come to their town. He gave them the courage to know that their solders have power and the strength to defeat enemies. So when being burried by the towns people Beowulf was with the dragon's treasure. Even though they knew that he was only human, they still believed that Beowulf was the towns hero.

Audience Post

When you think of the first person who told the tale of "Beowulf" do you wonder what he was intending on the purpose of what the story to should be? I do, because the moral behind the story is when you know you can be the best you are the best. Being such a big story I wonder if they thought their hero Beowulf was real. As the audience of the story, the story tellers beliefs affected the sorty as a whole. Like "men gathered in the mead hall" meaning it was a belief for Beowulf and all his men to gather to have a toast. They believed that they were going to have a victory. With my beliefs going into my game I believe that they will have a big reflection on the way i live. For an example I wouldnt think twice about putting somthing that isn't what I do within my game. Age has a lot to do with the way a game would come out. Some being off maturity, because i think someone who is older would take it more serious that a teenager. Not saying all teens wouldn't take it serious, but in general.

Beowulf-part 1

Grendel, whos thoughts are as quick as his claws, and didn't think twice about killing someone through the night. The monster lived down in the darkness, and was spawned in slime. Grendel was split into a thousand forms of evil spirits, monsters, and goblins. After killing men upon men, and running with thier bodies with their blood dripping behind him being so delighted with his many kills. They called in Beowulf, who was stronger than anyone in the world. Being loved by everyone Beowulf ventured on to Denmark. Meeting up with Grendel, Beowulf knew his great strength would have to overcome the enemy of Denmark. Alone he would fight for his life aginst the monster. Before fighting, the city had a banquet in his honor for toasts to the victory that is coming. They all shout "the evil will be gone." There was great danger in fighting the great monster, because they would be fighting in seas. They said it would take five long nights through the swift pulling sea, but the town believed in his great strength. So they ate, toasted, and cheered for their great savior through the night. The prince even came to this honoring to wish him well, and said to Beowulf, "Keep it free of evil, fight with glory in your heart"....

With the twittle of his nose her can do anything, and i mean anything."Gypsy George" says its easy to just poof people, because he doesn't have to fight. "Gypsy George" takes care of all Alaska, and everyone loves him for his protection. The citizens of Alaska will always be protected for now and forever on.

Game Reviews

With my expierence on "Playing to Learn" I found out there are good and bad games. Even though both of my games were fun to a point, I still found flaws. I enjoyed the game "What would you do" the most, because it was based off real life high school drama. The kind of things that are really in high school, and i know everyone likes to hear about drama. However this game was made by a professional. On the otherhand the game made by a student, wasn't quiet as interesting. Not to be mean but it didn't have anything to drawl me in. The same topic was throughout the whole game, "Sammy the Salmon." I must admit it did have interesting information about the fish, but I just wasn't enjoying it. Over all I would say both games together are good!

Internet Safety

How could you live without internet? Without communication with your peers, helping with homework, or even searching fun places to go. In my research for "online safety for teens" i read that teens tend to take more risks than older people. Like in chatrooms, when the anonymous person askes you questions like where you live, and how old you are. However another Website said teens are more responcible, because were more tolerant to diversity than people were 10 to 20 years ago. In a questionaire teens answered 84 percent wouldn't send somthing embarrising about somone else over the internet, and 16 percent say they would. The key for all teens is to just simply protect yourself while on the internet.

chad's first blog !

This is my first blog ever on wiki, and i'm pretty excited! I was suprised when i heard our class would be a computer English 12 class and a little nervous that I wouldn't get it. So far i'm aye okay, besideds a few misunderstandings. For our senior project comming up Ashley and I decided to work together. I'm very happy with that too, because Ashley is amazing. With everything going on in here I am excited to get everything up and running.
